The Sticky Rice Saga

Image
The Sticky Rice Saga In winter 2012, my aunt visited a friend of hers who is Thai. The friend made sticky rice for dessert and served it with bananas. My aunt and I tried recreating it with sushi rice and then with genuine Thai sticky rice. By the end of our experimentations, we had about ten pounds of Thai sticky rice in the house and no satisfactory results from the recipes we had.

A More Refined Version: Bread Pudding

Playlist: Evanescence— The Open Door , Fallen (must be something about this time of year ), Rammstein— Rosenrot , Marilyn Manson— Eat Me, Drink Me , Rob Zombie— The Sinister Urge , Clan of Xymox— The Best of Clan of Xymox To complement this musical mélange, I bring you a dessert, the base for which is a  mélange of breads.  I apparently took it upon myself to owe you all earlier this year .  I made something similar in April .

Spring Cleaning the Freezer

Image
On to the cleaning.  I went home this weekend and cleaned out the corner of the freezer in which I have been accumulating various vegan and GF bits and bobs (i.e., the effects of the sentiment, "let’s double the recipe so I can not cook five days a week").  Mainly I had dessert detritus which would take a while to consume individually.

Spring *Brack*

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Made Irish tea brack this week to share at work since VGF Irish soda bread is nothing special.  OK, I’ll give myself credit; it’s nothing special outside my household.  In class this week, we were discussing how the ancient Romans and Greeks defined one’s family as one’s household.  Being a student, my household is a complicated matter.  I realised last week that I rarely spend more than three to four nights in the same place (you can’t assassinate me, hah hah!).  In a two-week span, I could be home for three nights, at my grandparents’ house for a night, at school for four nights, at my aunt and uncle’s for three nights, and so it continues.  Spring break will be an exception to that pattern since I will be in one place for more than a week (but just barely).
